Pep Guardiola Doesn't Want Manchester City's Way Of Winning To Be Similar To Liverpool
JAKARTA - Manchester City narrowly won 2-1 over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the eighth week of the 2024/2025 Premier League, Sunday, October 20, 2024.
The Citizens' winning goal came in the second half injury time, 90+5 minutes to be exact.
At that time, Manchester City appeared to be winning a frustrating 1-1 draw even though they dominated possession.
Luckily, John Stones headed a corner that shook Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa's net.
Referee Chris Kavanagh initially disallowed the goal because City midfielder Bernardo Silva was suspected of violating Jose Sa. However, a video of the referee's assistant (VAR) thought he did not block the line of sight and Kavanagh overturned his decision.

"Bernardo didn't interfere with Jose Sa's position, he had the perfect vision. Feed from Phil (Foden) and his header (John Stones) was incredible," said Pep Guardiola.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola further does not want the victory to be equated with Liverpool's way of winning while still being handled by Jurgen Klopp.
As is known, the Reds of the Klopp era often scored winning goals in the last minute.
"We are not used to winning games at the end, like (former manager) Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool that often happens. This is a good moment for us," said Guardiola.
Meanwhile, in the match against Wolves, Manchester City controlled 78 percent of the ball. However, those who came as guests had difficulty creating opportunities because the hosts piled up players in the defense area.
"With 11 players at the penalty spot, it was really difficult. However, we were patient. We were ourselves and it was so exciting," said Guardiola.
"We were in that position, when you lost at the end. However, this is the game."
"We played the way we wanted and it was an joy to be here, scoring goals in the last 50 seconds and climbing to the top of the standings," said the Spanish manager.
Apart from that, John Stones has twice been the final-minute goalscorer for Manchester City.
Before scoring against Wolves, the centre-back also scored in the final minutes against Arsenal last month.
The goal was also scored through his header taking advantage of a corner kick while avoiding The Citizens from defeat.
"Hopefully this will be the beginning of many other things. This is an important part of the game at both ends of the pitch."
"It was great for me personally to get a winning goal after a tough game," he said.
"I thought it was disallowed. I tried to talk to the referee, but he was surrounded by a lot of people."
"For me, it was the right decision. Obviously I would be biased, but I think it should be annulled," Stones said again.
