JAKARTA - Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita is a familiar figure for the community. The man who was born in Jakarta, January 3, 1969, is a figure who visited the domestic industrial sector in the second term of President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) administration, 2019-2024.

In his hands, the Indonesian manufacturing industry has succeeded in becoming one of the backbones of the economy, which is 18.67 percent of the national Gross Domestic Revenue (GDP) in 2023.

In addition, exports of the processing industry also continue to increase every year, namely 127.38 billion US dollars in 2019, and recorded an increase to 206.06 billion US dollars in 2022. In addition, investment in this industry also recorded an increase of 34 percent from the 2019-2023 period.

Seeing his performance and commitment to advancing the domestic industry, he is again trusted to lead the Ministry of Industry in the government of President and Vice President Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

According to his position, the Minister of Industry, he is tasked with assisting the president in organizing government affairs in the industrial sector.

In carrying out its duties, the institutions he leads have several functions, namely formulating, establishing and implementing policies in the industrial sector, managing state wealth in the industrial sector, implementing technical guidance and supervision of implementation in the regions, and implementing national-scale technical activities.

In simple terms, he bears the responsibility to maintain and improve the domestic industrial ecosystem, in accordance with the Vision and Eight Asta Cita Missions set by the President and Vice President Prabowo-Gibran, namely continuing downstreaming and industrialization, so as to increase domestic added value to realize Indonesia Gold 2045.

In order to make this happen, the path taken by Agus Gumiwang is not easy, he will face the dynamics of global political constalations, the availability of competent industrial human resources (HR), and world product competition.

During the Jokowi administration, he tricked these challenges by focusing downstream industries that have abundant resource potential, such as palm oil and kokoa. This makes the dynamics of market prices not very influential on the Indonesian economy.
