Foreign Secretary David Lammy Hopes UK-Indonesia Can Create Green Growth

JAKARTA - British Foreign and Development Minister David Lammy expressed his hopes for the Prabowo Gibran government.

He said that the UK and Indonesia can work together to create green growth.

"Indonesia is a key player in our fight to address the climate crisis - and our new government is working together to build a strategic partnership that creates green growth, deepens our cooperation in the security sector, and ensures a sustainable future for our planet," Foreign Minister Lammy said in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara.

Lammy arrived in Indonesia to attend the inauguration of President and Vice President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka which took place at the Nusantara Building, MPR/DPR RI Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday.

Lammy's visit to Indonesia is the first and marks the 75th anniversary of UK-RI diplomatic relations to strengthen the modern partnership to address the climate and nature crisis while creating jobs and sustainable growth.

"It is an honor to come to Jakarta to represent the UK at the inauguration of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran. On behalf of the British Government, I wish the new President and Vice President the very best in their term of office," he said.

Meanwhile, British Ambassador to Indonesia Dominic Jermey said Foreign Minister Lammy's visit showed the importance of Indonesia to the UK and was the beginning of a new chapter in the UK's relationship with Indonesia, both of which are members of the G20.

"Indonesia will play a key role in the future of our planet. Indonesia, which is expected to make the fourth largest contribution to global growth over the next five years, is an important partner for our security, and is not only home to vast rainforests and mangroves, but also to the world's largest coral reefs and extraordinary levels of biodiversity," Jermey said.

According to him, the UK looks forward to working with Indonesia under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka in order to increase economic growth, protect the environment, and create a more peaceful planet for our people. "Together We Can".

With the new governments in the UK and Indonesia, the British Ambassador continued, the two countries will work together to strengthen strategic partnerships that will accelerate progress in trade and investment, defense and security, climate change and sustainable development, and ensure the viability of life on earth.

Ambassador Jermey added that Foreign Minister Lammy's visit to Indonesia will also be supported by the UK's international leadership in addressing the climate crisis, through clean energy and green solutions, including sustainable transportation.
