FIFA Confirms Messi's Defendant Club Inter Miami Is One Of The Participants Of The 2025 Club World Cup
JAKARTA - FIFA confirmed that the MLS Inter Miami club, which was captained by Argentine star Lionel Messi, was one of the participants in the 2025 Club World Cup held by the United States after winning the MLS Supporter's Shield 2024.
"I am proud to announce that, as one of the best clubs in the world, Inter Miami has the right to participate in the 2025 Club World Cup as a representative from the United States," said FIFA President Gianni Infantino, quoted from the FIFA website in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Sunday, October 20.
MLS Supporter's Shield is an annual title given to the team with the best overall record in the regular MLS season.
In 2024, Inter Miami won MLS Supporter's Shield after winning 74 points from 34 matches, with 22 wins, four defeats and eight draws.
Apart from being a participant, Inter Miami was confirmed to host the opening ceremony of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup on June 15, 2025.
"It will be a great celebration for football clubs globally. The tournament will be attended by 32 clubs from around the world and provide opportunities for clubs, players, coaches and supporters to start the story," said Gianni.
Inter Miami also has the status of the 31st participant in the 2025 Club World Cup which will be attended by 32 teams.
The last team to be involved in the tournament is the 2024 Libertadores Cup winner to be known after the final in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on November 30, 2024.
The draw for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup group will take place in December 2024.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will take place in different formats from previous years. Usually, the championship is held every December and the new UEFA Champions League champions will compete in the semifinals.
In that latest edition, there are 32 teams from seven football confederations under FIFA who participated in the group-system tournament with a duration of almost one month, namely 15 June-13 July 2025.
