This Is A Series Of Challenges For The Prabowo-Gibran Government

JAKARTA - Political observer Pieter C Zulkifli considers that the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka government will face complex challenges ranging from geopolitical situations, the slowdown in the global economy to the prolonged digital crisis.

"In Indonesia, the textile industry giant has felt this impact. Financial difficulties made them have to make a bitter decision by laying down thousands of employees, followed by the textile industry and other garment," he said, Sunday, October 20, 2024.

This condition shows how vulnerable the national economy is to facing external pressure, especially amid uncertainty in the global arena, particularly regarding tensions between NATO and Russia.

According to Pieter, the impact of the conflict in Europe has begun to be felt by countries in the Asian region, including Indonesia. If tensions between NATO and Russia expand, it is not impossible that the Asian region will also engage in similar tensions.

This will have an impact on energy prices, especially oil and gas that have soared sharply, followed by the soaring prices of basic necessities, and lead to additional production costs in various sectors.

This spike will trigger inflation and exacerbate people's purchasing power. This is where big challenges for Prabowo arise, maintain national political and economic stability, while implementing reforms in strategic sectors," he said.

Therefore, Prabowo-Gibran must be careful in taking every policy. The reason is, the decrease in purchasing power, the increase in unemployment, and the dependence on raw material exports can exacerbate the national economic situation.

In addition, the Prabowo-Gibran government must also focus on firm and measurable law enforcement. Especially corruption which remains a scourge and haunts various sectors, ranging from mining, oil palm plantations, to governance of national education and health institutions that have not taken sides with the interests and safety of the people.

Pieter emphasized that if Prabowo wants to realize Indonesia's vision of Gold 2045, then strong and firm law enforcement must be a top priority. He hopes that the new government will dare to eradicate the land, energy and oil and gas mafia that has been eating away at the nation's wealth.

"Without decisive steps, don't expect Indonesia to get out of the shackles of corruption that continues to haunt and even destroy the lives of the nation and state," he said
