Gregoria Hopes To Recover Soon From Injury

JAKARTA - Women's singles badminton player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung hopes to recover from an injury that forced her to withdraw from the semifinals of the Denmark Open 2024.

Gregoria had to bury her dream of reaching the final round of the tournament after a thigh problem while falling behind in the second game against An Se Young on Saturday, October 19 evening WIB.

Gregoria said that she would undergo recovery assisted by physiotherapists while seeing developments that spread to the waist.

"If the next few days haven't improved, I have to immediately check my condition at the Indonesian hospital. Hopefully I can recover quickly and be ready for the next tournament," said Gregoria after the match.

The injury has actually been felt by the bronze medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics when he met Pusarla V. Sindhu in the quarter-finals yesterday.

Gregoria admitted that when she appeared at the 2024 Arctic Open in Finland last week, she had received special treatment from the PBSI physiotherapist team and physical trainers.

"Even until this morning before playing, the pain was still felt. Earlier at the beginning of the first game I still wanted to try to play in this semi-finals," admitted the 2017 junior world champion.

Gregoria is one of three Indonesian representatives who appeared in the semifinals of the Super 750 BWF level event. The other two representatives are Putri Kusuma Wardani and Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.

However, the other two also lost. The daughter was beaten by second seed Wang Zhi Yi, while Fajar/Rian lost to the host doubles Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.
