Drinking Too Much Water Is Dangerous
JAKARTA - A woman in Australia almost died after drinking too much water. He claims to drink a lot of water as an attempt to 'heal the flu'. Unfortunately, this attempt to drink too much water led to a disaster for him.
Reporting from the LADBible page, an Australian woman named Nina Munro felt unwell and decided to drink about four liters of water. He tried this to help relieve his illness. However, the combination of a lot of water and drugs relieve the symptoms of the cold and flu caused convulsions.
The 41-year-old woman finally went to the doctor. Then, the doctor said he was not sure about her survival, because she spent five days in intensive care. Meanwhile, medical personnel are trying to stabilize her sodium levels.
Six weeks before being hospitalized, he began to experience symptoms of cough and runny nose. Nina met five doctors at the time and was given various prescription drugs.
"I was given a lot of prescription drugs for 'three steroids, three antibiotics, nasal spray and Nurofen' to lower my sodium," he added.
In addition, the mother gave advice for Nina to drink lots of water. Until finally, the suggestion was maintained.
"I keep thinking, I need to drink all this water," he said.
Before being hospitalized, his condition worsened before being treated on June 15. He felt sick and always drank water.
The next day, his eyes were 'butted', and once again told to drink more. The doctor previously thought he might have symptoms of withdrawal, for taking steroids.
At the time he was hospitalized, he admitted that he had vomited for about three days. He didn't eat anything, apart from drinking four liters of water.
"All the doctors don't know how I survived, I slowly drowned myself and I didn't realize it. My husband said I wouldn't do anything without a glass of water next to me," he said.
"I think someone is looking for me. I think I'm a very healthy person," he added.
Now, he understands and only drinks when he feels thirsty. He is now limited by doctors to only drink 1.5 liters of water per day. The doctor said the cause of low levels of sodium in his body was because he drank too much water combined with drugs that treated mild flu, plus mykoplasma infection.
Nina said her memory of the time she spent in the ICU was a bit vague, but she felt lucky to be alive. Luckily, Nina is now recovering and able to return to her activities.
