Prevent Radicalism In Prisons, BNPT Continues To Innovate And Increase Synergy

JAKARTA - The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) continues to intensify cooperation with various related parties in efforts to deradicalize, especially in prisons.

Deputy I of BNPT, Major General of the TNI Roedy Widodo, emphasized the importance of a sincere collaborative spirit in fostering terrorism convicts. According to him, a good synergy will create a positive domino effect in deradicalization efforts

"With collaboration, we are bright and willing to work, solely because of the main task but because of worship," said Roedy, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, October 19.

He admitted that the deradicalization collaboration in prisons carried out with stakeholders has so far been very good.

This needs to be maintained and guarded in spirit because with examples, good collaboration will have a good influence on deradicalization partners in prisons.

"There is a natural law, like attracts like, something similar will be interesting, if we are sincere and enlightening, if we collaborate, our deradicalization partners will also be brightened," he added.

Meanwhile, Head of Public Guidance for Class I Surabaya Prison, Bambang Sugianto, admitted that the deradicalization collaboration, which had been coordinated by BNPT, had gone well in the field.

According to him, this is also evidenced by the implementation of BNPT Regulation number 2 of 2020, especially regarding the protection of prison officers who are vulnerable to threats and exposure to terrorism radicalism.

By coordinating in the field and implementing the law, the officers now feel safer in carrying out their duties.

"BNPT immediately moved quickly to carry out the protection, through coordination with local officials and what form, this was immediately implemented by BNPT," said Bambang.

In the hearing, two terrorism convicts were also presented at the Class 1 Surabaya Prison, namely ASJ and AJ.

AJ, a prisoner from West Java, admitted that with this collaboration, he felt better changes to himself, both from understanding and expertise because all parties helped each other.

"Besides understanding, it can change, from radical to Ahlussunnah wal jamaah which is correct, then we can also learn life skills here," said AJ.

Present at the event were representatives from the Directorate General of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, and the East Java Regional Task Force (Satgaswil) Densus 88 AT Polri, and the Head of Sub-Directorate for Bina in the BNPT Prison Colonel Marines Wahyu Herawan, MSc.
