These Three Institutions Say The Sun Achieves The Maximum Period Of Activities

JAKARTA - In a recent teleconference, researchers from three atmospheric science agencies, including the United States Institute of Aeronautics and Space (NASA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Agency (NOAA), as well as the Sun Cycle Prediction Panel, said the Sun had reached a maximum period of the Sun (solar maximum), which is expected to last until next year.

Every 11 years, the Sun switches between low and high magnetic activity. During the peak of this activity, the Sun's magnetic pole reverses, and the Sun transitions from calm to active and storm-filled conditions, according to a NASA statement published on Tuesday, October 15.

"During the maximum period of the Sun, the number of sunspots, and thus the number of solar activity, has increased," said Jamie FAIRs, Director of the Space Weather Program at NASA Headquarters in Washington, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, October 19.

"This increased activity provides an exciting opportunity to study our closest stars, but also has a real impact on Earth and our entire solar system," he added.

Solar activity greatly affects conditions in space known as space weather. Solar activity can affect satellites and astronauts in space, as well as communication and navigation systems, such as radio, GPS, and power grids on Earth.

"This announcement does not mean that this is the peak of solar activity. We will see this solar cycle," said Elsayed Talaat, Director of Space Weather Operations at NOAA.

He added, "Although the Sun has reached its maximum period, certainty in what month, where the activity of the Sun will peak has not been identified for months or even years to come."
