Riot Games Again Lays Off, This Time Impact On League Of Legends Team
JAKARTA - Marc Merrill, co-founder of Riot Games announced that they had terminated 32 of their employees, of which 27 were included in the League of Legends development team.
"We have made changes to our team and how we work to ensure we can continue to improve the League experience now and for the long term," Merrill wrote in his announcement on X.

However, he explained that the reduction of these employees is part of the company's long-term goal and ensures they have the right expertise so that the League can continue for the next 15 years.
He also emphasized that this reduction in employees would not slow down work on the game. "We are investing heavily in solving today's challenges more quickly while also building for the future," added Merrill.

In early 2024, Riot had laid off 530 employees, and said at the time that they had made a big bet in recent years that failed to bear fruit.
Despite this new reduction, Merrill rationed the team's League of Legends "in the end it will be bigger than now" as Riot prepares for the next phase of the MOBA game.
"It's not about reducing the number of employees to save money" it's about making sure we have the right expertise so League stays great for the next 15 years and so on."
