Sentences Increased To 12 Years In Prison, SYL Files Cassation

JAKARTA - Former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo or SYL seemed not to give up after the Jakarta High Court (PT) increased the sanctions in cases of extortion and gratification at the Ministry of Agriculture to 12 years in prison. This is because SYL decided to file an appeal.

The submission of the SYL cassation is contained in the Case Investigation System (SIPP) of the Central Jakarta District Court.

"The status of the case: the appeal," wrote SIPP of the Central Jakarta District Court, quoted Monday, October 14.

SYL filed an appeal with two of his former subordinates while at the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, namely Kasdi Subagyono and Muhammad Hatta. They are known to be involved in the same case.

It is known that the Jakarta High Court has increased the sentence of former Agriculture Minister RISyahrul Yasin Limpo regarding extortion and gratification cases at the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture from 10 years to 12 years.

Not only that, the judge also imposed a fine of Rp. 500 million. However, if SYL does not pay the fine, it will be replaced with imprisonment of 4 months.

"With the provision that if the fine is not paid, it will be replaced with imprisonment for 4 months," said the chairman of the panel of judges, Artha Theresia.

In the verdict, SYL was obliged to pay compensation of IDR 44,269,777,204 and 30 thousand US dollars.

If you can't afford it, then SYL will get a substitute sentence in the form of imprisonment for 5 years.

"If you don't pay, your property will be confiscated and auctioned off by the prosecutor to cover the replacement money, provided that if the convict does not have sufficient property, he will be sentenced to 5 years in prison," said judge Artha.
