BNPB: 10,586 People Affected By High Cliff Floods
JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) recorded as many as 10,586 people affected by flooding in Tebing Tinggi City, North Sumatra, which has occurred since Wednesday 9 October at 02.00 WIB.
In a statement reported by ANTARA, the flood affected 3,227 families or 10,586 people in five sub-districts, namely Rambutan District, Tebing Tinggi Kota District, Bapip District, Padang Hulu District, and Padang Hilir District.
"It is estimated that 2,921 housing units were also affected by the water level (TMA) reaching 1 meter," said BNPB.
However, on Sunday night the floods that hit the city due to the overflow of the Padang, Bahilu, Sibarau, and Sei rivers, have shown signs of receding.
Even so, the Tebing Tinggi City BPBD and related agencies are still monitoring the development of the situation in the field. Efforts to handle BPBD include intensive coordination with the relevant sub-district, village head, and regional apparatus organizations (OPD) to ensure an effective response.
Refugee tents have been established in affected locations since 3 days ago and the distribution of logistical assistance is still ongoing. In addition to flood management, the joint BPBD and SAR team is also still looking for one victim who was reportedly swept away in the Bahulu River.
BNPB appealed to the public to be aware of the potential for further flooding due to high rainfall.
