BMKG Predicts Big Cities In Indonesia Will Rain And Be Cloudy At The Beginning Of The Week

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to the public to prepare themselves for rainy conditions in several major cities in Indonesia, accompanied by cloudy weather in other areas.

BMKG forecaster Rif 'at Darajat in online weather forecasts quoted by ANTARA as saying thunderstorms are predicted to occur in several cities on the island of Sumatra including Medan, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Bengkulu, Pangkal Pinang and Bandar Lampung.

He said lightning is also predicted to occur in Banda Aceh, while moderate intensity rain has the potential to be experienced in the Palembang area and light rain in Padang and Pekanbaru.

Meanwhile, in the Java Island area, Rif'at said that the BMKG predicts the potential for light rain in Serang and Bandung and thick cloudy weather in Jakarta, Semarang and Surabaya. The Yogyakarta area can experience sunny cloudy weather.

Sunny cloudy is also predicted to occur in the Mataram and Kupang areas with Denpasar, which he said could experience cloudy conditions.

For those in the Kalimantan Island area, they are asked to prepare an umbrella or rain jacket, especially those in Tanjung Selor and Samarinda with the potential for moderate rain and Pontianak and Palangka Raya have the potential for light rain. For the Banjarmasin area, the BMKG predicts cloudy weather.

Rainy weather also has the potential to occur in the Sulawesi region, with the BMKG saying there is the potential for heavy rain in Mamuju, moderate rain in Manado and light rain in Gorontalo, Palu and Kendari. Conditions in the Makassar area itself have the potential to be thick cloudy.

For eastern Indonesia, he said, light rain can occur in Sorong, Manokwari and Jayapura as well as moderate rain in Ternate, Nabire, Merauke and Jayawijaya. In the Ambon City area, BMKG predicts thick cloudy conditions.
