Asking For Representatives In Indonesia, Government Waits For Response To Platform X

JAKARTA - The government has asked Elon Musk's social media company X to have representatives in Indonesia. Through the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo), the government has contacted the company formerly known as Twitter.

Deputy Minister of Communication and Information (Wamenkominfo) Nezar Patria admitted that he had communicated with X. He is now just waiting for a response from the company.

"Communication already exists, so we just have to wait for the follow-up," said Nezar, quoted from Antara, Sunday, October 13.

Communicating via a letter, Nezar admitted that the contents of the letter asked X to have an official representative in Indonesia. This is because X is the only digital platform in Indonesia, but there are no official office representatives in the country.

Nezar admitted that this step was taken to provide a sense of justice for other platforms, which have offices in Indonesia and as electronic system operators (PSE).

Previously, Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said, X must have an official representative office in Indonesia to meet the criteria for doing business in the country.

Budi admitted that he continues to strive to prioritize communication so that X can fulfill the request to have a representative office in Indonesia.

"If other platforms, such as Meta, Google, and others already have representatives here, does he not exist alone? Yes, right? Later, it is considered that the government will not provide a sense of justice in doing business," said Budi at the Ministry of Communication and Information, Central Jakarta.

If X does not want to respond and meets the requirements to have an official office in Indonesia, then the application may be blocked or the access is cut off, so it cannot operate in the country.
