Mount Semeru Erupted 7 Times On Saturday Morning

JAKARTA - Mount Semeru in Lumajang Regency - Malang, East Java experienced a seven-time eruption that blew a column of volcanic ash hundreds of meters high from the summit of the volcano.

Officers from the Geological Agency of the Mount Semeru Observation Post, Liwanto, said that the data recorded had been recorded seven times since 7.47 WIB and finally, at least until 10.32 WIB, the eruption was still ongoing.

All series of eruptions were clearly observed by officers at the Mount Semeru Observation Post.

Based on these observations, the ash ejected by Mount Semeru was white to gray with moderate intensity to the southwest.

Then the height of the ejection of ash ranges from 200 meters - 400 meters above the peak of Mount Semeru or 3,976 meters - 4,076 meters above sea level.

However, officers did not report the results of observations of seismic activity during the series of eruptions.

Mount Semeru is still on alert status, so the Geological Agency provides a number of recommendations, namely that people are prohibited from carrying out any activities in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan as far as eight kilometers from the summit (the center of the eruption).

Beyond that distance, people are not allowed to carry out activities at a distance of 500 meters from the riverbank (river border) along Besuk Kobokan, because it has the potential to be affected by the expansion of hot clouds and lava flows up to a distance of 13 kilometers from the summit.

The community is also not allowed to move within a three km radius of the crater or peak of Mount Semeru because it is prone to the dangers of incandescent stones.

In addition, the public needs to be aware of the potential for hot clouds, lava avalanches, and rain lava along rivers or valleys that originate at the top of Mount Semeru, especially along Besuk Kobokan, Besuk Bang, Besuk Kembar, and Besuk Sat, as well as the potential for lava in small rivers that are tributaries from Besuk Kobokan.
