The Secretary General Of The United Nations Conveys Total Solidarity For The Republic Of Indonesia After Israel's Attack On The Peace Forces

JAKARTA - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his solidarity with Indonesia following the Israeli attack on the UN Temporary Forces headquarters in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Naqura, Lebanon, on October 10, 2024.

"Let me convey my total solidarity for the Indonesian delegation. Two Indonesian peacekeepers (on duty in Lebanon) were injured by Israeli gunfire," Guterres said at the 14th ASEAN-PBB Summit in Vientiane quoting Antara.

He also expressed his sympathy to the Indonesian people following the attack. "We are with you and the Indonesian people at this time," Guterres added.

Regarding the security situation in the world today, Guterres said that peace is much needed than ever before.

"Peace is needed from whenever we see the tremendous suffering of the Gazan people, which is now widespread in Lebanon, not to mention Ukraine, Sudan, Myanmar, and many more," he said.

"Meanwhile, the death and destruction rates in Gaza are something that has not been compared to other situations I have seen since I became Secretary-General," he further said.

"You play a key role in shaping a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable world with respect to human rights," he said.

To that end, Guterres also expressed the UN's willingness to provide full support and the United Nations in this effort.

"You can always rely on the full support of me and the United Nations in this important endeavor," he said.
