Israel Launches New Attack On Gaza, Many Trapped In North

JAKARTA - It was reported that 60 people were killed in an Israeli military offensive in Gaza, as Israeli forces continued attacks in the northern part.

The Israeli military said the attack was meant to stop Hamas fighters from launching further attacks from Jabalia and prevent them from gathering again. This was overshadowed by the Israeli conflict with Hezbollah militants in Lebanon and plans to retaliate against Iranian missile attacks last week.

Israel has repeatedly issued evacuation orders to the residents of Jabalia and surrounding areas, but Palestinian officials and the United Nations say there is no safe place to flee the Gaza Strip.

At least 400,000 people are trapped in the area, Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UN aid agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, posted on X on Wednesday, October 9.

Medical officers said Israeli attacks killed 15 people inside Al-Yaman Al-Saeed Hospital in Jabalia. The hospital houses refugee families living in tents.

Gaza's Ministry of Health said the army had ordered three hospitals in northern Gaza to be vacated. Hundreds of patients and medics were trapped inside the facility.

"The lives of dozens of patients are threatened by the Israeli siege around the hospital," he added.

The Israeli military said Hamas militants used the premium area as protection in the densely populated Gaza region, including schools and hospitals. Hamas denied this.

Gaza health officials said 32 people were killed in Greater Java and surrounding areas in the north, while others were killed in the central and southern Gaza Strips.

Gaza's Hamas-run state media office said 125 Palestinians had died in the northern region of Gaza in the past five days.

Palestinian Civil Emergency Services received reports dozens of Palestinians may have been killed in Jabalia and other areas in northern Gaza, but were unable to reach them due to Israeli bombings.
