PBNU Chairman Estimates Israel's Attack On Lebanon Could Be A Big War

JAKARTA - General Chairperson of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board Yahya Cholil Staquf or Gus Yahya condemned Israel's actions, which are now also expanding its attacks on Lebanon.

Gus Yahya explained that the attack extends from Gaza, Palestine, to the Red Sea in Yemen, and until now to Lebanon.

"And if it is not stopped, then we will wait for how many more people will be involved in massive violence like this? And this means threatening the safety of the whole world," he told reporters in Jakarta, Wednesday, October 9, which was confiscated by Antara.

Gus Yahya estimates that an Israeli attack that extends has the potential to become a major war.

In addition, he continued, this attack will also sacrifice various parties that cannot be measured anymore.

"Once again, we want to repeat our call that violence must be stopped for whatever reason," he said.

According to Gus Yahya, each party has its demands that must be discussed through a civilized negotiating table, and not with violence as it has been until now.

He stated that his party as the world's largest Islamic community organization would not stop calling on the world to stop Israeli attacks, including by having direct relations and talks with various parties, who have ties to those involved in the conflict.

"Some time ago, I just returned from America, I met with various parties there, including officials from the American Ministry of Foreign Affairs to convey the same thing, that this must stop this violence. Because the violence (if) is being continued, it will spread more and more. And we know now that's what's happening," he explained.

Therefore, Gus Yahya again called for violence in the world to be stopped and all conflicts resolved through negotiations in civilized ways.
