Paul Schholes Asks Erik Ten Hag To Be Replaced, Tactics And Transfers To Be In The Spotlight

JAKARTA - The continuous pressure came to Erik ten Hag. In addition to the supporters calling for Manchester United to fire the Dutch coach, the club legend began to speak up.

Paul Schholes also wanted the same thing. He criticized Erik ten Hag's tactics which made the Red Devils slump.

"When you don't have a style of playing and don't know how to play, or how to play you want, it's very difficult to choose a player."

"When you don't have a style of play and it changes from week to week, you almost throw the ball into the air and say, he looks like a good player, we'll try and get it," Schholes told SuperSport.

The man who defended Manchester United from 1993 to 2013 considered Ten Hag's tactics only to survive, not to pursue achievement targets.

A way like that, according to Schholes, is not the culture of Manchester United that has always been a competitor in the race for the title anywhere.

"This is a point for Manchester United, playing on difficult pitch under a lot of pressure."

"I never really felt they went there to try and win the game. It was more of a survival tactic than anything else."

Chaotic Transfer

Apart from tactics, Manchester United's transfer maneuvers also have no direction. Schholes criticized the team's movement in the summer exchange for spending around 180 million without results.

"Zirkzee, what is he like? Is he number 9 or number 10? Will he give you 20 goals? I don't think so."

"Rasmus Hojlund is pretty good, but will he score 20 goals? I don't think so."

"I think they rely more on hope than the quality is proven. They spend so much money. The amount of money is huge and some of them can't get into the team."

"You imagine Ugarte coming to the club, who should have changed the midfield, but he didn't play it."

"De Ligt costs 50 million pounds and he doesn't play it. Jonny Evans comes at the age of 36 to replace him."

"Martinez, Ten Hag took him to the club. What could he possibly think of? Jonny Evans plays, Harry Maguire starts, Victor Lindelof enters before him. This is really a mess of recruitment," said Schholes.

Erik ten Hag's fate is currently on the brink. Manchester United officials scheduled a meeting with the coach on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, local time.

A number of names were predicted to be a replacement for Ten Hag, ranging from assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy to Thomas Tuchel.
