Cases Of Child Violence Increase In The Last Five Years

JAKARTA - Cases of child abuse in Indonesia in the last five years have seen a significant increase. This was conveyed by the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA).

"About 11.5 million children or 50.78 percent of children aged 13-17 years have experienced violence throughout their lives. In the past year, 7.6 million children have experienced violence," said Deputy for Child Special Protection at the Ministry of PPPA Nahar in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara.

This data is known from the results of the 2024 National Child and Youth Life Experience Survey (SNPHAR) launched by the Ministry of PPPA. The types of violence surveyed in the 2024 SNPHAR are physical violence, emotional violence, and sexual violence against children in Indonesia.

The prevalence of physical violence in boys aged 13-17 years throughout life ranges from 13.91 percent in the 2021 SNPHAR data, up to 21.22 percent in 2024. In girls, the physical violence they experienced throughout their lives in 2021 was 10.49 percent, up to 15.56 percent in 2024.

Meanwhile, prevalence of sexual violence in boys aged 13-17 years throughout life 3.65 percent in 2021, rose to 8.34 percent in 2024.

Then according to data, the prevalence of sexual violence in girls of the same age throughout life in 2021 will range from 8.43 percent, up slightly to 8.82 percent in 2024.

There were also cases of emotional violence against boys recorded at 32.06 percent in SNPHAR for the 2021 period, and rose to 43.17 percent in 2024. Meanwhile, in girls, there were 42.61 percent who experienced emotional violence in the 2021 period, up to 47.82 percent in 2024.

"Emotional violence is recorded as the highest type of violence that occurs in children," he said.
