Legislators Invite Members Of The DPR For The 2024-2029 Period Commitment To Pass The PPRT Bill

JAKARTA - The Draft Law (RUU) on the Protection of Household Workers is forwarded orrryed over to the DPR for the 2024-2029 period from the DPR for the previous period. Member of the DPR RI Netty Prasetiyani Aher hopes that the PPRT Bill can be ratified during the membership period of the DPR for the current period.

"The discussion of the PPRT Bill to the next period must be positively welcomed to realize comprehensive protection for household workers," said Netty, Monday, October 7.

"The PPRT Bill will be included in the priority list of the legislative or prolegnas program during the 2024-2029 membership period and must be ratified immediately," he continued.

Netty, who in the 2019-2024 DPR period served in Commission IX in charge of employment affairs, hopes that all parties involved can provide escort in the PPRT Bill. Considering that the bill, which is the initiative of the DPR, has been fought for for for for 20 years but has not yet been realized.

"The leadership of the DPR for the future period must seriously fight for the ratification of the PPRT Bill as a form of the state's commitment to guarantee protection for its people," said Netty.

According to Netty, the PPRT Bill will provide comprehensive protection to household officials if it is finally ratified. The absence of a legal umbrella for household workers has made this domestic work profession still vulnerable.

"It is time for the state to attend and provide legal protection to these 5 million household workers," said the legislator from the West Java VII electoral district.

Netty said that the PPRT Bill is very important because it can fill the legal vacancy for protection for domestic workers. The PPRT Bill will also provide a sense of security for domestic workers who often experience acts of discrimination, exploitation, and harassment.

Based on data from JALA PRT, there were 2,641 cases of violence against household workers in 2018-2023. The majority of cases were in the form of psychological, physical, and economic violence in the working situation.

Netty said that herus countries are really present for household workers who contribute a lot of foreign exchange and state income.

"They clearly contribute to the development process," explained Netty.

For this reason, Netty invites all members of the DPR for the period 2024-2029 to commit to supporting the PPRT Bill. So that when the DPR's board (AKD) equipment (AKD) for this period has been formed later, the council can immediately discuss the PPRT Bill which is considered very much needed by household workers.

"We hope that all members and leaders of the DPR RI elected for the 2024-2029 period have the same spirit in assessing the importance of ratifying the PPRT Bill into law," he said.

Netty also hopes that people and elements of other countries who focus on this issue will continue to oversee the discussion of the PPRT Bill.

"The community and especially household workers must continue to oversee the discussion of the bill," concluded Netty.
