The New Generation Of Toyota GR86 Reportedly Carries A Hybrid System Without A Subaru Base

Rumors about the emergence of the latest generation of Toyota GR86 are sticking out again. The high-performance car will have more powerful performance and have many similarities with other Gazoo Racing (GR) models.

Launching from Carscoops, Monday, October 7, the car reportedly has the same 1.6 liter turbocharged engine as GR Yaris and GR Corolla, replacing 2.4 liter 4-cylinder naturally-asspirated which exist in today's generation.

Another interesting thing is that the car will be powered by hybrid driving as well as expanding Toyota's electrification line. It is estimated that this system is taken from the latest generation of Land Cruiser Prado.

Thus, this car has the potential to have more than 300 dk of power or up from the current 228 dk. Just like GR Yaris and GR Corolla, the latest GR86 model will adopt sixth gear change in manual and automatic acceleration in the future.

Despite having a significant number of changes, it is also reported that this model retains rear wheel drivers (RWD) like the current generation. Not only that, this sport-style car also doesn't carry the same platform as Subaru and chooses the chassis of the shorter and compacter version of the Lexus IS.

The combination of turbo machines, hybrid systems, and new platforms can make GR86 the next generation a much more resilient model in the compact sports car segment.

Rumors about the presence of a replacement for GR86 are increasingly strengthened with the sports car not meeting the upcoming fuel consumption standards in Japan. Thus, the worst possibility is that GR86 must be eliminated.

Unfortunately, the information regarding the model is still very limited. What's more, Toyota has not provided an official statement regarding the latest generation from GR86. However, it will be interesting if Toyota applies a hybrid system in the GR ranks for the future.

Apart from many manufacturers who uphold electric-powered vehicles (EVs), Toyota is trying a slightly different thing. The Japanese manufacturer has long said that the hybrid system is superior technology.
