List Of Regions That Will Get The 5G Network In Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) announced a number of areas in Indonesia that will receive 5G service for the first time. There are 6 provinces on the island of Java that get top priority. The rest are scattered in several areas outside Java.

All these areas have been listed in Ministerial Regulation No.2 of 2021 regarding the Kominfo Strategic Plan. These locations were chosen for the application of the 5G network because they already have infrastructure support and also a large market potential.

"The location of six provincial capitals on the island of Java as a pilot project in the early stages of 5G implementation is because the six locations are considered feasible both in terms of market potential and infrastructure support", said Kominfo on Friday, March 2.

Not only that, but the 5G network will also be presented in several super-priority tourist destinations such as Borobudur, Labuhan Bajo, Mandalika, Likupang, and Lake Toba. Meanwhile, the new state capital (IKN) which is located in Kalimantan will also soon receive a 5G network.

"Collaboration and joint planning with all other stakeholders are absolutely necessary so that there is legal certainty in each sector involved and minimize potential disputes between sectors in the future considering that the new IKN is a green field", said the Kominfo.

"So that the alignment should be relatively easier in the framework of achieving common goals".

Currently, the IKN already has a fiber optic network for 4G services. Therefore, the new capital is claimed to be ready to implement the 5G technology network.
