Minister Of Transportation Budi Karya: Central IKN Airport Prepared For Aircraft Landing

Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi stated that Nusantara Capital Airport (IKN) is being prepared for a test landing of large aircraft to support the development of the region and improve the accessibility of air transportation in the area.

"After the landing of the RJ85 Presidential Aircraft at the end of last month, Nusantara Airport will now resume a landing test for a larger type of aircraft," said the Minister of Transportation while reviewing the progress of the construction of Nusantara Airport in IKN, East Kalimantan, quoted from Antara, Monday 7 October.

The Minister of Transportation said that the progress of the construction of Nusantara Airport in IKN, East Kalimantan, is now getting faster.

He said that the runway of Nusantara Airport has now reached a length of 2,200 meters with a width of 45 meters.

"Currently, the PUPR Ministry has deployed the runway area with a target of completion on October 10, 2024," said the Minister of Transportation in a statement in Jakarta.

Budi said that the Ministry of Transportation would verify the feasibility of the runway to land the plane again.

"God willing, the runway will be completed on the morning 10 (October) and in the afternoon a landing trial will be carried out," explained the Minister of Transportation.

Previously, the Presidential Aircraft with type RJ85 successfully landed at Nusantara Airport, escorting Indonesian President Joko Widodo to make working visits in several Kalimantan areas.

After getting thicker and wider, the airport runway will be ready to be accommodated by the Boeing Business Jet 737-800 Presidential Aircraft which is larger than RJ85.

"Before the President's plane landed, we will carry out a proving flight with similar aircraft, the same as before the RJ85 landing at Nusantara Airport," continued the Minister of Transportation.

On that occasion, the Minister of Transportation also reviewed the progress of the airport terminal construction along with three architects of Nusantara Airport, namely Yori Antar, Adi Purnomo (Mamo) and Reza Wahjudi (Bobos).

The Minister of Transportation ensured that the terminal construction was in accordance with the big concept of IKN, which was oriented towards nature and environmentally friendly and highlighted Kalimantan culture.

The construction of the IKN airport is targeted for completion on December 31, 2024, with a runway of 3000 meters and a terminal building area of 7,350 meters2.

Nusantara Airport will be able to serve aircraft landings of the largest type B-777 300 ER and A380.
