PGN Aggressively Develops Earth Gas Market In Eastern Indonesia

MAKASSAR PT PGN Tbk is getting serious in efforts to accelerate the development of natural gas trading in Sulawesi. Control of natural gas management, both pipelined gas, LNG, and integrated CNG, is the main capital for PGN for massive market expansion in the region.

"In the context of developing the market in Sulawesi, PGN is aggressive and open to collaborating with strategic partners regarding the supply of natural gas supply and infrastructure. So far, we are targeting industrial areas with sufficient demand potential and so that they can provide multiplier effects for the surrounding community when natural gas is effectively utilized," said PGN President Director Arief Setiawan Handoko.

On Friday, (4/10/2024), PGN inaugurated the reactivation of the Eastern Indonesia Region (KTI) area as a form of PGN's commitment to developing natural gas markets in the central and eastern regions of Indonesia. Arief hopes that this reactivation can accelerate market expansion and follow up on the opportunities obtained more effectively.

Coordination with the government also continues to be established by PGN considering that PGN's steps in developing natural gas businesses cannot be separated from the government's support. With the Ministry of Industry, PGN is committed to supporting the short-term roadmap of the Ministry of Industry related to the development of natural gas infrastructure in Industrial Estates (KI). There are 14 KIs (out of 50 KIs) that are priorities for developing natural gas infrastructure, some of which are located in Sulawesi.

The role of Subsidiaries is also important for PGN in efforts to expand the market in Sulawesi. In addition to maintaining the sustainability of natural gas supply and supporting infrastructure, there are other potential collaborations that can be carried out such as EPC services, property, telecommunications, and other business activities.

Judging by the portfolio owned, PGN competes as one of the energy providers in Sulawesi. Historically, PGN has distributed LNG to smelters located in Southeast Sulawesi. LNG was imported from North Kalimantan using 25 units of 40 ft Isotank. The distribution of LNG to Sulawesi proves that the beyond pipeline scheme by PGN can be realized and commercialized.

"In the future, PGN will be motivated to monetize natural gas with various modes of transportation. The reactivation of natural gas business activities in Sulawesi is part of PGN's commitment to strengthen its existence in increasing the use of domestic energy and providing environmentally friendly energy in Indonesia, especially the central and eastern regions," Arief concluded.
