Google Ends Project That Allows Android Devices To Run ChromeOS

JAKARTA - Google has stopped developing projects that allow Android devices to run ChromeOS easily, through an application called "Feroshrome." This project, which was originally just proof of concept, is now officially discontinued, closing hopes that this feature will be available on Google devices like Pixel.

Earlier this year, Google's internal projects emerged allowing devices, including Pixel phones, to run ChromeOS on top of Android.

This project takes advantage of Android's increasingly sophisticated capabilities to run virtual machines. Although it had attracted attention, Google finally confirmed that the project was only an experiment, eliminating hopes that this feature would be presented to the public.

Now, through the latest commitments included in the AOSP (Android Open Source Project), Google has expressly stated that the "Ferochrome" project will not be released or maintained further. Android Authority is the first to report this commitment before it is implemented.

Google does not completely leave Android Virtualization Framework, the technology used in this project. However, the termination of "Ferrochrome" indicates that this feature will most likely never be released to end users. Even so, there is a possibility that other parties could develop similar technologies in the future.
