Komnas Perempuan Urges DPR RI To Immediately Discuss The Draft Law On The Protection Of Household Workers

JAKARTA - The slow pace of the Indonesian House of Representatives to discuss and ratify the Draft Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers (RUU PPRT) has been in the spotlight of the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan).

Komnas Perempuan Urges the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) 2024-20249 to ensure its promise to accelerate the discussion of the PPRT Bill.

"For almost two decades, the PPRT Bill has been included in the priority program for almost two decades, but until the end of 2024, the PPRT Bill cannot be passed again," said Komnas Perempuan Chairman Andy Yentriyani when confirmed in Jakarta, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, October 5.

Komnas Perempuan hopes that by passing the PPRT Bill, it can create comfort and security for domestic workers in the country.

By passing the PPRT Bill, he said, it can also create a better work relationship between domestic workers and employers who use their services.

Andy Yentriyani added that a similar acceleration also needs to be carried out on a bill to protect indigenous peoples, which needs to ensure special protection for traditional women and adherents of ancestral religions.

In addition, Komnas Perempuan reminded parliament to pay special attention to anticipating the vulnerability and recovery of women victims of violence and affected by the climate crisis in the discussion of bills related to environmental, investment and climate governance.

Komnas Perempuan also highlighted the discussion of the Archipelago Bill to strengthen services for women victims of violence.

"Also the Convention on the Protection of Everyone from Forced Disappearance has stalled until now even though this convention is needed to ensure urgent recovery for victims and their families," said Andy Yentriyani.
