Ugandan Citizens Involved In Prostitution Deported From Bali

DENPASAR - The Immigration Office in Bali expelled a foreign national (WNA) from Uganda with the initials JN for allegedly being involved in a prostitution case.

"We also propose that the perpetrators be prevented from entering Indonesia," said Denpasar Head of Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim) Gede Dudy Duwita as reported by ANTARA, Friday, October 4.

JN, the 34-year-old woman, was deported back to her country via Soekarno Hatta Airport escorted by Denpasar Rudenim officers.

He previously languished in the Denpasar Rudenim for waiting for financial readiness to buy a ticket home at his own expense.

JN was at the Denpasar Rudenim after being arrested by Intelligence and Immigration Enforcement Officer Ngurah Rai during an immigration operation in Kuta and Seminyak in Badung Regency, Bali on Friday (16/8).

During the examination, he continued, officers found conversations on the perpetrator's cellphone indicating involvement in prostitution cases.

Even so, JN denied that the conversation took place with someone in Germany, not in Bali, and he admitted that he was not involved in prostitution on the Island of the Gods.

Meanwhile, regarding the deterrence, his party is still waiting for a decision from the Directorate General of Immigration in Jakarta.

In accordance with Article 102 of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration, deterrence can be enforced for up to six months and can be extended for the same period if necessary.

In addition, for more serious cases, life imprisonment can be applied to foreign nationals who are considered to threaten security and public order.

Meanwhile, based on data from the Bali Kemenkumham Regional Office, from January to September 2024, the Immigration Office in Bali has deported 412 foreign nationals (WNA).

This number has increased significantly compared to 2023 as many as 335 foreigners were deported by the Immigration Office in Bali, namely the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Denpasar Immigration, Singaraja Immigration, and Denpasar Immigration Detention Center.

There were also the most deported foreigners, namely from Taiwan, reaching 90 people who were previously caught simultaneously in a foreign surveillance operation.

Most deported foreigners from Russia, China, the Philippines, the United States, Australia, Nigeria, and Ukraine.

The reasons vary from residence permit, misuse of residence permits, to violations of the law and ensnared in criminal cases.
