160 Thousand People Have Left Lebanon To Syria Since Israel's Airstrike

JAKARTA - About 160,000 people have crossed the border from Lebanon to Syria since the increase in attacks in Lebanon.

The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said the number of people crossing into Syria decreased on Wednesday, October 2, following steady arrivals since Israel launched airstrikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon on September 23.

UNHCR spokesman Matthew Saltmarsh previously told CNN on Monday, September 30, about 100,000 people had crossed the border.

Of the thousands of people believed to have traveled, about 70 percent about 112,000 people are Syrian citizens. The rest are Lebanese citizens.

Most people left Lebanon in the east, towards the Syrian capital, Damascus.
