BRIN: Ring Sun Eclipse Cannot Be Observed In Indonesia

JAKARTA - Researcher for Astronomy and Astrophysics of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Thomas Djamaluddin said the phenomenon of ring solar eclipses that are predicted to occur today cannot be observed in Indonesia because it takes place in the middle of the night until early morning Indonesian time.

"The ring solar eclipse occurred in the Pacific to South America at midnight until the early hours of October 2-3 Indonesian time. So it cannot be observed in Indonesia," Thomas said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 2.

He explained that the phenomenon of a ring solar eclipse similar to a common solar eclipse occurs when the position of the moon blocks sunlight.

However, due to the position of the moon further than the average, the lunar disk looks smaller than the sun's disk so that the edge of the sun looks like a ring.

Thomas said the common impact occurred when the phenomenon of a solar eclipse was an increase in tides. However, the impact caused by the solar eclipse is not dangerous.

"The general and global impact of solar eclipses is an increase in sea tides but it is not dangerous," he said.

It is known, based on the analysis of the Geophysics team, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) found areas that could observe the Ring Sun Eclipse, among others in the Pacific Ocean, southern South America with its movement flow through southern Chile and southern Argentina.

The Head of BMKG Time Signs, Himawan, explained that the phenomenon of the Cincin Sun Eclipse is a rare phenomenon, very rare, the period for the same location is more than 10 years so this is not an ordinary phenomenon.

The impact of the ring solar eclipse phenomenon is insignificant. In general, such as a decrease in surface temperature, light intensity, and changes in local wind patterns because some sunlight is blocked by the moon, and these changes are not as dramatic as the total solar eclipse.

A special note from the BMKG to observe the phenomenon of the Ring Sun Eclipse in the area being crossed must use special glasses so that the eyes are not damaged.
