Annually, BPS Records 1.84 Percent Inflation In September 2024

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that year on year (yoy) inflation in September 2024 was 1.84 percent. This figure is lower when compared to September 2023 of 2.28 percent.

Plt. Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said that inflation in September 2024 was more sloping than in September 2023.

"The increase in the consumer price index from 104.02 in September 2023 to 105.93 in September 2024," he said at a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday, October 1.

Amalia said that the annual inflation occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by the increase in most expenditure group indexes.

"That's the food, beverage and tobacco group with inflation of 2.57 percent and contributing 0.73 percent to general inflation," he said.

Amalia said the commodities with the largest share of inflation in the group were rice and machine kretek cigarettes (SKM) with 0.23 percent and 0.13 percent respectively. Other commodities that provide large enough inflation are powder, sugar and cayenne pepper coffee.

Meanwhile, other commodities outside the food, beverage and tobacco groups that contributed significantly to inflation were gold jewelery and rice and side dishes with 0.30 percent and 0.04 percent each.

In addition, Amalia explained that the annual inflation also occurred due to an increase in the price of clothing and footwear groups by 1.18 percent, housing, water, electricity, and household fuel groups by 0.60 percent.

Furthermore, the household routine equipment, equipment and maintenance group was 1.08 percent, the health group was 1.69 percent, the transportation group was 0.92 percent, the recreation, sports and culture group was 1.55 percent.

Then, the education group was 1.94 percent, the food and beverage/restaurant supply group was 2.25 percent, and the personal care and other services group was 6.25 percent.

Meanwhile, the expenditure group that experienced a decrease in the index, namely: information, communication, and financial services groups by 0.28 percent.

Amalia said that the highest annual provincial inflation occurred in the Papua Mountains Province at 4.14 percent with a CPI of 110.12 and the lowest occurred in Bangka Belitung Islands Province at 0.49 percent with a CPI of 103.76.

Meanwhile, the highest annual district/city inflation occurred in South Minahasa Regency at 6.31 percent with a CPI of 107.44 and the lowest occurred in Karo Regency at 0.04 percent with a CPI of 105.80.

Meanwhile, the deepest annual district/city deflation occurred in South Central Timor Regency at 1.32 percent with a CPI of 104.16 and the lowest occurred in Tanjung Pandan at 0.22 percent with a CPI of 105.87.

To note, the monthly deflation rate or month to month (mom) in September 2024 is 0.12 percent and the inflation rate on a calendar year or year to date (ytd) is 0.74 percent

Meanwhile, the annual inflation rate of the core component in September 2024 was 2.09 percent, monthly inflation was 0.16 percent, and inflation on a calendar year was 1.69 percent.
