China Opposes Lebanese Sovereignty And Security Violations

JAKARTA - China opposes actions that violate Lebanon's sovereignty and security, as well as behaviors that lead to an escalation of regional conflicts.

The statement was made by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs commenting on the death of Hezbollah movement leader Hassan Nasollah in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut the day before.

China opposes Lebanese sovereignty and security violations, opposes and condemns any action against innocent civilians, and opposes any action that triggers hostilities and increases regional tension," the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement quoted by Sputnik-OANA via Antara, Sunday, September 29.

Claiming to be very concerned about the increasing situation in the Middle East, China said it was continuing to monitor these developments thoroughly.

China urges related parties, especially Israel, to take immediate action to cool the situation and prevent conflict from increasing or even getting out of control, the statement reads.

Israel began massive bomb attacks in southern and eastern Lebanon since last Monday, September 23.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health recorded more than 1,500 deaths as a result of an Israeli attack. Hezbollah retaliated against the attack by firing dozens of rockets at northern Israel.

The escalation was preceded by a series of explosions of pagers and electronic communications devices that rocked Lebanon on September 17-18, which killed about 40 victims and injured nearly 3,500 others.
