WhatsApp Develops Security Features To Prevent Hazardous Links

JAKARTA WhatsApp has been trying to develop security tools over the past few months. These various tools will be released to reduce interactions with unknown accounts and links in the form of phishing.

Previously, WhatsApp beta for Android in version 2.23.16.6 will display various security options when the user opens messages from unknown numbers. Users can directly block or report the contact.

WhatsApp also offers additional options to check the profile name, profile photo, and state code of unknown contacts. To support this feature, WhatsApp is developing a feature that can prevent access to malicious links.

Based on WABetaInfo's findings, WhatsApp beta version 2.24.20.28 is testing the feature of searching for links quickly on the web. When someone sends a link, the platform will include the Search on Web feature at the top of its message.

When tapped, the pop-up menu will appear with two options, namely Get Info About Link and Search for Text. This feature is very useful to find out if the links sent by other users contain harmful content.

Although this new feature is integrated with Google, WhatsApp will not share messages on the platform with Google. WhatsApp guarantees that the content available on the platform remains private and will not be processed or stored on the server.

Currently, WhatsApp is trying to improve the feature so that this security tool is ready to be released in the upcoming application update. It is not yet known whether this feature will be available on iOS.
