KPK Believes Council Will Value Evidence From Whistleblower Alexander Marwata

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) handed over the investigation into alleged ethical violations by its deputy chairman, Alexander Marwata to the Supervisory Board. The evidence brought by the complainant must be assessed further.

This was conveyed by KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardika in response to Alexander's report to the Supervisory Board by the Law Concerned Student Forum (FMPH) on Friday, September 27. He is suspected of meeting with the former Head of Yogyakarta Customs, Eko Darmanto, who is a suspect.

"I have not been informed of any reports against the Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Mr. Alexander Marwata, to the KPK Council. However, the KPK invites the reporter to convey the alleged violation," said KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardika in a statement to VOI, Saturday, September 28.

Tessa also said that she did not know whether this report was the same as the alleged meeting between Alexander and Eko Darmanto, which was busy some time ago. It is known that the meeting incident had actually been discussed around April 2024.

Alexander has even explained that the meeting was held at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, with the approval of other leaders. At that time, he was accompanied by a team from the Directorate of Public Reports and Complaints (PLPM) and Eko who was not yet a suspect.

"Whether what was reported is still the same or different from the allegations that were busy a few months ago, of course we leave it to the Supervisory Board in assessing the evidence attached by the reporting party," said the spokesman with the investigator's background.

FMPH reported Alexander to the KPK Supervisory Board for allegedly violating Article 4 paragraph (2) letters a and b in the KPK Council Regulation number 3 of 2021 after meeting Eko Darmanto. This incident is said to have occurred on March 9, 2023 or when he was investigated for showing off assets on social media that led to being removed from his position.

"(We, ed) ask the KPK Council to immediately process and justice Brother Alexander Marwata in accordance with applicable laws and regulations," said Chairman of the Law Concerned Student Forum Raja Oloan Rambe in his statement, Friday, September 27.

Meanwhile, Polda Metro Jaya is also investigating the alleged meeting between Alexander Marwata and Eko Darmanto. This effort is to follow up on public complaints.

"The investigation that is currently being carried out by the investigation team of the Tipidkor Sub-Directorate of the Ditreskrimsus Polda Metro Jaya is in order to find and find an incident suspected of being a criminal act," said Director of Special Criminal Investigation of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Ade Safri Simanjuntak to reporters, Friday, September 27.

The alleged criminal act in question is direct or indirect relationships by the KPK leadership with suspects or other parties who are related to corruption cases handled by anti-corruption agencies.
