Basuki Hadimuljono Meets Japanese Infrastructure Minister, Discusses These Four Cooperation Agendas
JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono met with the Japanese Minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLITT)
The meeting focused on strengthening four infrastructure cooperation agendas between Indonesia and Japan.
First, following up on the implementation of the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) which will take place in Bali, Indonesia, in May 2024. Basuki expressed his appreciation to the Japanese Government for his support for WWF.
He also highlighted the Indonesian Government's proposal to set August 27 as World Lake Day.
"On August 27, he was chosen as a reminder of the holding of the World Lake Conference in 1984," Basuki said in a written statement, quoted on Friday, September 27.
In this matter, Basuki said that his party would study the pattern of sustainable lake management and conservation by visiting Lake Biwa.
In addition, Basuki also met with the Secretary-General of the Japan Water Forum Toshiro Takemura to discuss preparations for the 5th Asia Pacific Water Summit (APWS) in 2027.
This is a follow-up to Indonesia which is again trusted to host the event.
"Aaya will consolidate and follow up on letter of intent (LoI) to be detailed into the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which contains the theme, sub-themes, stages, time and joint committee starting in early 2025," he said.
In Japan, Basuki also thanked the Japanese Government for its support through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the establishment of the Center of Excellence in water and climate security.
Previously, the Director General of Water Resources at the Ministry of PUPR Bob Arthur Lombgia had also signed the MoU Sabo Technical Center (STC) together with the Head of JICA Representatives in Indonesia at the 10th World Water Forum.

Later, this collaboration aims to strengthen the Saba Technology Training Center and become part of the Center of Excellence in water and climate security that can be utilized by Asian Pacific and African countries.
Basuki's fourth agenda in this meeting was the submission of a request for support from quality assurance experts or quality assurance experts in the implementation of IKN development.
According to Basuki, this is very helpful for the Government of Indonesia to ensure that the development of IKN as a city meets high quality standards.
