Lebanese Foreign Minister Disappointed With Joe Biden's Speech At The United Nations, Considered Normative Not To Solve Problems

JAKARTA - Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib expressed his disappointment with United States (US) President Joe Biden in a speech at the UN General Assembly on the increasing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

Whereas the US is called the only country that can really make a difference in the region.

Biden only briefly mentioned the widespread fighting in the Middle East in his final speech at the UN General Assembly, which occurred when cross-border attacks killed hundreds of people.

"It's not strong. It's not promising, and won't solve this problem," Abdallah Bou Habib said of Biden's speech at a virtual event hosted by Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in New York.

Referring to the war in Gaza and the fear of a wider regional conflict, Bou Habib said the Israeli government could not survive except with war.

He also criticized the killing of civilians in Lebanon.

An estimated half a million people have fled in Lebanon.

Last week, Israel made the return of residents to northern Israel safe for war after nearly a year of cross-border shootout with Hezbollah.

Biden in his speech invited countries to ease tensions in the Middle East. The diplomatic solution, Biden said, must be put forward.

Too many people on each side of the Israel-Lebanon border are still displaced, he said. "Full-scale war is not in anyone's interest," added Biden.
