PT PAL Indonesia Collaborates With UGM, Strengthens Maritime Industry
PT PAL Indonesia is collaborating with Gadjah Mada University (UGM) to prepare human resources capable of strengthening Indonesia's maritime industry in the future.
The specific collaboration in the field of education, research and community service was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between UGM Chancellor Prof. Ova Emilia and PT PAL Indonesia President Director Kaharuddin Djenod at the Faculty of Engineering UGM, Yogyakarta, Tuesday, September 24.
"This maritime industry is the backbone of the advanced civilizations in the world," said Kaharuddin Djenod, as quoted by Antara.
UGM, he said, is one of the major universities in Indonesia with relevant special expertise to support the development of the maritime industry, including PT PAL Indonesia.
Kaharuddin explained that the maritime industry is not only a domain majoring in shipping and marine majors.
According to him, the maritime industry, including shipping, is the domain of all majors of technology, both machinery, architects, civilians and other majors.
"Building a ship is like building a floating city so that all of that expertise is there. So cooperation with UGM is not only in special majors but in various majors, we can collaborate," said Kaharuddin.
The cooperation between the two institutions also opens up opportunities for UGM students to experience direct experience in the industry through internship programs and final work research at PT PAL.
Kaharuddin said that although two-thirds of Indonesia's territory is an ocean, 95 percent of its maritime economic value potential is still running abroad, so Indonesia only gets five percent.
Therefore, he invited all UGM people to jointly reclaim the economic potential and independence that exists in the Indonesian maritime sector.
According to him, it is time to take and take full advantage of these potentials for the prosperity of the Indonesian people.

"Hopefully PT PAL Indonesia together with UGM will be able to make a real and big contribution to the rise of a civilization that is our common goal, namely Indonesia Gold 2045," he said.
UGM Chancellor Ova Emilia admitted that many UGM alumnus are now careers in PT PAL Indonesia, ranging from law faculty graduates, engineering faculty, to administrative business management.
"The Gadjah Mada University can certainly offer many professions to PT PAL to build synergies and collaborations in the hope of creating mutualism and providing benefits for both," said Ova.
