KPU Allows Voters To Campaign Empty Boxes In The 2024 Pilkada
The General Elections Commission (KPU) has allowed voters to campaign and support empty boxes in the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada.
KPU member Idham Holik said the implementation of the empty box campaign was no different from regions that did not have a single regional head candidate pair.
"The campaign in the regional elections with one candidate pair is basically the same as the implementation of a campaign in the regions with a non-one candidate pair election," said Idham as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 24.
According to him, the acquisition of supporters of empty boxes campaigning during the regional elections is proof that the KPU is proportional to the political choices of the community.
"Indeed, there are differences where there are parties who are allowed to carry out different campaigns. We as election organizers are related to the election for one candidate pair in the context of socialization and education of voters and dissemination of information regarding regional elections, we must be proportional," he said.
The KPU also guarantees people's human rights in determining their political stance, one of which is if they want to support or vote for empty boxes.
"Our people guarantee that they have the freedom to vote in accordance with their respective political intentions," said Idham.

Even so, Idham appealed to supporters of empty boxes to obey the rules of campaigning. One of them is prohibited from campaigning on calm days and voting days.
"We will ban anything in its form when it leads to activities to the campaign, we will build it," he said.
He also believes that Bawaslu will do the same thing, namely prohibiting campaigns on calm days and voting days.
"So, we will prohibit it and we are sure that our Bawaslu colleagues will also carry out active supervision regarding this matter," he concluded.
