BAI Boss Targets SGAR Luxury To Produce 3,000 Tons Of Alumina Per Day
MEMPAWAH - President Director of PT Borneo Alumina Indonesia (PT BAI) Leonard Manurung targets Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR) Mempawah Phase I to produce 3,000 tons of alumina per day after starting full operation in the first quarter of 2025.
For information, PT BAI is a subsidiary of the State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum and PT Aneka Tambang Tbk.
Leo said, because it had just entered the commissioning stage, the produced alumina production only ranged from 500 to 1,000 tons per day.
"Well, later when we are normal, we are approaching 3,000 tons per day and we hope that in the first quarter of 2025," he told the media crew in Mempawah, Tuesday, February 24.
Leo ensured that the alumina products produced by this smelter would be fully utilized by PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum (Inalum) as a commodity to produce aluminum. The alumina produced by SGAR will be sent through the ports of Kijing, Mempawah and taken to Kuala Tanjung, North Sumatra for further processing by Inalum.

"We have to meet the needs of the inalum. Currently, as a shareholder, of course, those who need alumina need approximately 600,000 tons of alumina per year," he explained.
For information, this smelter is expected to start operating in the first quarter of 2025, with a full production target in the second quarter of the same year.
The project cost an investment of at least US$941 million with a production capacity of 1 million tons per year.
