State Expenditures Increase 15.3 Percent Until August, Sri Mulyani: Due To El Nino And Elections

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati revealed that the realization of state spending reached Rp1,930.7 trillion, an increase of 15.3 percent (yoy) compared to the same period last year. This realization is equivalent to 58.1 percent of the 2024 APBN target of Rp3,325.1 trillion.

"The growth is still very strong as is known in 2024 since the beginning of the year of double-digit state spending growth," said Sri Mulyani at the APBNKita Press Conference, Monday, September 23.

Sri Mulyani conveyed that the surge in state spending, which achieved double digits, was due to the need for elections and also El-Nino social assistance.

"It all causes state spending to increase, and this double digit still lasts until August 2024," he said.

On the same occasion, Deputy Minister of Finance I Suahasil Nazara explained that the realization of Central Government Expenditures (BPP) reached Rp1,368.5 trillion or grew 16.9 percent (yoy). This realization is equivalent to 55.5 percent of the ceiling.

"BPP until August 2024 has realized Rp1,368.5 trillion, 55.5 percent of the ceiling, the ceiling is Rp2,467.5 trillion, this is from the ceiling of Rp2,467.5 trillion, Rp1,368.5 trillion has been realized and this realization is 16.9 percent growing above the realization of BPP spending in 2023," he said.

Suahasil menyampaikan BPP ini terdiri dari belanja Kementerian/Lembaga (K/L) mencapai Rp703,3 triliun atau setara 64,5 persen dari pagu. Digunakan untuk dukungan pelaksanaan pemilihan umum (pemilu), penyaluran berbagai program bantuan sosial, sarana dan prasarana pertahanan keamanan, dan pembangunan infrastruktur.

Then for non-K/L expenditures it reached Rp665.2 trillion or the equivalent of 48.3 percent of the ceiling. Distributed for subsidies and energy compensation, as well as payment of pension benefits.
