Indonesia Brings 10 Gold Medals, Ukir Hattrick At International Badminton

JAKARTA Indonesia has succeeded in becoming the overall champion for three consecutive years aka a hat-trick at the Indonesian Hydroplus Para Badminton International.

This achievement was engraved after this year's edition Indonesia received 10 gold medals from 20 categories contested in the final round which was held at the Edutorium of Muhammadiyah University Surakarta, Solo, Central Java, Sunday, September 22, 2024.

Chairman of the Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC), Senny Marbun, hopes that achievements in the event supported by the Djarum Foundation of Sports Service can be maintained in the following years.

"Congratulations to all the athletes who have become champions and continue to train hard to achieve a lot of success in the future," said Senny in a statement received.

In the final round, the Indonesian team's victory was opened by the mixed doubles SL 3 SU 5, Hikmat Ramdani/Leani Ratri Oktila. This pair stopped their compatriot, Fredy Setiawan/Khalimatus Sadiyah.

Hikmat/Ratri, who are the first seeds, won two straight games with a score of 21-12 and 21-10. This result also made them defend the title from last year.

In addition to maintaining the title, this result adds to the pair's success list this year. Previously when they appeared at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, they also brought home a gold medal for Indonesia.

Hikmat hopes that their achievements can inspire the next generation so that Indonesia can have athlete regeneration which can continue to be taken into account in various important events.

"Hopefully the athletes of other badminton will be more enthusiastic to train harder and be able to increase the flight hours at international level tournaments," said Hikmat.

The gold medal for Indonesia in this event was also contributed by the men's singles Subhan. He climbed the highest podium after receiving India's representative, Sivarajan Solimalai, in a two-game battle with the final score of 21-19 and 21-15.

This is the second title of Subhan at Indonesia Para Badminton International. Previously, he had also taken the podium to win in the 2022 edition tournament.

Deputy Manager of the Djarum Foundation Sports Service, Yuni Kartika, said that Indonesia's achievements in Hydroplus are a breath of fresh air for the ecosystem turnover of badminton.

"As we note, Indonesia did not come down in full force after the Paris Paralympics, but it turns out that athletes are able to meet the target by coming out as overall champions," he said.

In this year's edition, India managed to follow Indonesia in the runner-up position. The country has collected a total of six gold medals from this prestigious event.

One of the gold medals for India was contributed by mixed doubles Prem Kumar Ale/Alpha James in the WH 1'WH 2 classification. The pair won after winning 21-11 and 21-9 over representatives of Indonesia, Agung Widodo/Kararina Dwi Putri Kristianti.
