Having The Largest Capacity In ASEAN, PLTGU Java-1 Pacu RI Achieves Net Zero Emission

PT Pertamina said that the Java-1 Power Steam Gas Power Plant (PLTGU) in Karawang, West Java directly helped Indonesia realize zero carbon emissions (Net Zero Emission/NZE), considering that the facility has the largest electrification capacity in ASEAN, which is 1,760 megawatts.

The new renewable energy electrification facility (EBT) is a consortium project between Pertamina New and Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), Marubeni, and Sojitz which has been fully operational since March.

"The Java-1 PLTGU is one of the pillars of the energy transition for the pride of Pertamina and Indonesia, because not only its largest capacity in Southeast Asia, but also the advanced technology it uses provides many advantages both from operational, financial, and environmental aspects. In addition, as one of the national strategic projects, the Java-1 PLTGU will strongly support national energy security," said Pertamina NRE Corporate Secretary Dicky Septriadi in Karawang, West Java, quoted from Antara, Monday, September 23.

Dicky said that the Java-1 PLTGU connects steam gas-powered power plants with storage facilities as well as LNG regasification on a floating boat or also called the Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) which has a regasification capacity of 300 Million Standard Cubic Feets per Day (MMSCFD) supplied from Tangguh, Papua.

In addition, the latest generation single-shaft combined gas turbine (CCGT) technology helps these electrification facilities operate more efficiently and save electricity production costs.

From an operational perspective, this generator also has a black start capacity technology that allows for self-starting up, so that the waiting period for the synchronization process at the time of recovery in the event of a faster power outage.

Furthermore, General Manager of PLTGU Java-1 Rudy Smith said that the facilities operated by his party have a strategic role, considering that the location is located at the Java-Bali electricity network load center.

This is able to reduce the potential loss of electricity in transmission channels in the process of sending electricity to industrial and community areas, because it can quickly provide efficient electrification supplies to network networks located in Cibatu Baru, Bekasi.

He said that the Java-1 PLTGU is one of the important facilities created for the synergy of SOEs, namely Pertamina and PLN, as well as with international partners, who have a high commitment to realize the transition to clean energy in Indonesia.
