Indonesian Bawaslu Ensures All Election Supervisors Control The Determination Of Cakada
JAKARTA - The Indonesian General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) ensures that all election supervisors are present at the General Elections Commission (KPU) office to oversee the implementation of plenary determination of regional head candidates (cakada) for the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada).
"Today, we make sure that all levels of election supervisors are present at the KPU office to carry out direct supervision," said the Coordinator of the Prevention, Community Participation and Public Relations Division of the Indonesian Bawaslu Lolly Suhenty as reported by ANTARA, Sunday, September 22.
Lolly also ordered all election supervisors to be alert in receiving complaints if there were allegations of violations in the process of determining the candidate for regional head.
"In fact, if there are findings from Bawaslu, in the context it turns out that the procedure (determination) is not in accordance with the regulated mechanism," said Lolly.
The number of violations that often occur during the term of determination of candidates are the incompatibility of regional head candidates determined by the KPU with predetermined administrative requirements.
For example, there are prospective regional head candidates who are recorded as still in the process of being convicted, but are determined as candidates for regional head.
In fact, the candidate for head will have to run a five-year gap before advancing for the 2024 Pilkada.
"There are also other conditions that are administratively not fulfilled, but passed. Well, this must be monitored inherently in the process," said Member of the Indonesian General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) Herwyn JH Malonda.
For information, the KPU noted that there were 43 regions where there were only only single candidates during the registration period of 27'29 August 2024. The 43 regions consist of 1 province, 37 districts and 5 cities.
Then, the KPU extended the registration period on September 2'4. From the extension period of the registration, there have been additional pairs of candidates, bringing the total to 41 regions with single candidates.
The KPU then reopened the nomination document on September 11, 2024 for regions with single and regional candidate pairs who had proposed a candidate pair but were rejected, as well as those with disputes in Bawaslu.
As a result, currently there are 35 regions with single candidates.
