Expert: Get To Know Your Conditions Before Doing Western Sports Activities

JAKARTA - Sports medicine expert dr. Andhika Raspati, Sp.KO., reminded the public to first recognize his condition before carrying out strenuous sports activities so as not to actually cause health problems, one of which is injury.

"Right now, sports have become a trend and lifestyle for some big city residents, especially running, cycling, badminton, and golf. Of course, it's good to do sports activities, but it must also be remembered for his abilities," said Doctor Dhika, his nickname, in Surabaya, quoted from Antara, Saturday, September 21.

He stated this on the sidelines of the inauguration of the sports clinic and the rehabilitation of medical services as a result of the collaboration between Welspro Sport Clinic & Performance and Ciputra Hospital Surabaya.

"Not a few of the novice sports activists train hard like athletes, even though it's wrong. Athletes train twice a day, morning and evening, then during the day rest. Those who are not athletes have to work in the office, don't take a break, keep exercising at night, when the body rests," said Doctor Dhika.

The man who was a member of the Indonesian Contingent Health Team at the 2024 Paris Olympics added that sports activities that were too forced and not according to his physical abilities could actually result in injury, even death.

He gave an example that it is often found that community members feel that they want to achieve the same results as other members, even though they realize that there are differences in their abilities as well as the quality and type of tools used during exercise.

"In the bicycle community, for example, they like to walk in groups, even though the bicycles are different. Some are frames that are light, some are heavy. Even though people's conditions are also different, maybe there are those who are not very healthy and they are forced to always be together. If they are left behind, they can be teased, in the end, they don't want to lose and force themselves, so then many are collaps," he explained.

Of these cases, continued Dhika, Welspro together with Ciputra Hospital Surabaya opened health and sports services for the community, both individually and in groups (communities or companies), including fitness check services, injury rehabilitation, and medical fitness programs.

"We are preparing comprehensive services with the support of collaboration of a team of doctors with various disciplines in the support of modern medical equipment and medicine. There are orthopedic specialists, sports medicine, physiotherapy, nutrition specialists to the future professional trainers have been prepared," added Director of Ciputra Hospital Surabaya dr. Siska Sindhuatmadja.

He added that this service is not only for sick people or injured, but also for people who are in good health and want to continue to keep their condition in shape through measurable sports programs.

President Director of Welspro Clinic Dr Agus Chairul Anab, Sp.BS., added that during the two years of opening the first service in Jakarta, his party has handled a number of companies in preparing wellness and sports programs for their employees, including serving professional athletes.

"Initially we assessed first, the program was continuously prepared that was appropriate for employees. If the employee is in good health and in good health, it will certainly have an impact on the company's health budget," said Doctor Aca, his nickname.

Meanwhile, an orthopedic and traumatological specialist at Ciputra Hospital in Surabaya, Dr. dr. Edi Mustamsir, Sp.OT(K) reminded sports players who have health problems or are injured to consult with experts so that their condition does not get worse.

"If the injury is indeed an operation, then surgery must be carried out so that the results are maximized. There are also injuries that heal through physiotherapy without the need for surgery. Everything is consulted with experts," he said.
