Good News! Australia Stops Anti-dumping Investigation Of Indonesian Pineapple Products

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) revealed that the Australian Government has decided to stop the anti-dumping investigation of pineapple products from Indonesia. The termination of this investigation has the potential to save the value of pineapple exports to Australia amounting to 11.2 million US dollars.

The pineapple products referred to in the investigation are consumer pineapple and food service and industrial (FSI) pineapple. The termination of the anti-dumping investigation of pineapple products from Indonesia was decided by the Australian Government in a Termination Report issued on September 5, 2024.

The Director General of Foreign Trade at the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, Isy Karim, welcomed the decision. He said Indonesia had succeeded in convincing Australia that pineapple exports from Indonesia were not proven to contain dumping prices.

In addition, said Isy, the volume of imports of pineapple products from Indonesia being investigated is below three percent of Australia's total pineapple imports.

"With Australia stopping the anti-dumping investigation, Indonesia has the potential to save pineapple exports to the land of Kangaroo up to 11.2 million US dollars," said Isy in an official statement, Thursday, September 19.

Isy said the discovery of dumping prices and low import volume became a solid basis for the Australian Government to stop the investigation.

"With these conditions, the anti-dumping investigation must be stopped if it refers to the provisions of Article VI GATT 1994 and other WTO provisions, namely Anti-Dumping Agreement," said Isy.

Meanwhile, the Director of Trade Security at the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, Natan Kambuno, said that the termination of the investigation only applies to pineapple from Indonesia. He said this condition gave Indonesia momentum to increase pineapple exports to Australia.

The termination of the anti-dumping investigation of pineapple products only applies to Indonesia, while investigations into pineapple from Thailand are still ongoing. Indonesia must take advantage of this momentum to increase pineapple exports to Australia. We hope that Indonesia can take the pineapple market share from the Philippines and Thailand in the Australian market," said Natan.

Natan added that appreciation needs to be conveyed for the active and productive collaboration between the Directorate of Trade Security of the Indonesian Ministry of Trade and Indonesian pineapple exporters.

"This is a key factor in Indonesia's success in thwarting the imposition of Anti-Dumping Import Duty by Australia against pineapple products from Indonesia," said Natan.

For your information, based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), in the 2019 '2023 period, the average value and volume of exports of Indonesian pineapple products to Australia increased by 5.97 percent and 0.46 percent.
