DMC Emergency Response And West Java Dhuafa Wallet Help Bandung Earthquake Victims
West Java's Dhuafa Wallet with the Disaster Management Center (DMC) swiftly responded to the earthquake that hit Bandung Regency by distributing aid to survivors. On Wednesday night, September 18, the team managed to distribute 40 baby blankets and 16 elderly blankets in the Lapangsari refugee tent, Cibeureum Village, Paperari District.
Taqi Falsafati, the person in charge of Handling the Bandung Earthquake Response from DMC Dompet Dhuafa, reported, "We distributed 40 baby blankets and dozens of blankets to the elderly." In addition, the team also distributed tarpaulins to self-isolation points in Cihawuk Village, Paperari District, Bandung Regency.
Based on field observations, a number of houses suffered minor, moderate, to severe damage. The temperature in the evacuation site reached 10 degrees Celsius, making many survivors choose to sleep in refugee tents and their home front yard. The fear of aftershocks at night still haunts the residents.
Dhuafa and DMC wallets continue to provide emergency response services until the situation is declared safe. According to data compiled by the West Java Provincial BPBD Pusdalops and DMC Dompet Dhuafa on Thursday 19 September, 21,714 people were affected, with 710 of whom displaced. Material losses include 3,394 housing units, 34 educational facilities, 59 places of worship, 8 health facilities, as well as 19 other offices and buildings.
