Investasi Geothermal RI Takkan 10 Tahun Untuk Balik Modal

JAKARTA - Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Eniya Listiani Dewi, revealed that investors in the geothermal sector can return their capital or break even points (BEP) within 10 years of the fact that the Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) is operating commercially.

"The BEP geothermal industry is 10 years old. After that, just accept the revenue," said Eniya in the Energy Corner quoted on Thursday, September 19.

Just so you know, the construction of the PLTP has a contract for 30 years.

Eniya ensured that the potential contract for 30 years would have a tremendous impact if the supporting components began to be produced domestically.

"From the first entrance, such as flow to max, then heat exchangeers and in the future there will be turbines that can be localized. We hope that this industry will start to grow because there is not much energy transition supporting industry," continued Eniya.

Eniya said that currently, industries such as solar modules and solar PVs have developed a lot, but other industries that can support geothermal and wind have not been developed much in Indonesia.

For this reason, he said, the government has a goal to create an exosystem that can support the EBT ecosystem in Indonesia and is currently being discussed with the Ministry of Industry so that we can create a supporting industry roadmap.

"We hope to support the transition process so that our nation has the opportunity to move also because of the large number of investments from outside but local industries must grow," explained Eniya.

Previously, Eniya said, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources also encouraged the acceleration of the development of electricity infrastructure by increasing the Domestic Component Level (TKDN), through the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 11 of 2024 concerning the Use of Domestic Products.

"This policy is expected to accelerate development as well as become a stimulant for local manufacturers," said Eniya.

From 2014 to 2024, the addition of PLTP capacity reached 1.2 GW, bringing the total geothermal installed capacity to 2.6 GW, or about 11 percent of the total national geothermal potential.

Geothermal energy also contributes 5.3 percent in the energy mix, making Indonesia the second largest geothermal electricity producer in the world.

This additional capacity is capable of electrifying 1.3 million houses and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 17.4 million tons of CO2 per year, supporting the achievement of Indonesia's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) target at the Paris Agreement.
