China Open 2024: 2 Indonesian Representatives Qualify For The Second Round

JAKARTA Two of the three Indonesian representatives who played in the first round of the 2024 China Open on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, managed to penetrate the second half.

Part of the series of matches from the first round of the BWF Super 1000 level event were completed on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, evening WIB, at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, China.

The two Indonesian representatives who managed to qualify were the men's singles Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and the men's doubles pair Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin.

Anthony penetrated the second half of the competition after stopping his country's compatriot, Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, in a two-game straight match.

Ginting, who won the bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, will then meet the world number one men's singles and the host's first seed, Shi Yuqi.

The second half of the China Open became the 12th clash between Shi Yuqi and Ginting. In the previous 11 clashes, Shi Yuqi was still ahead with a 9-2 winning-loss record.

Meanwhile, Fikri/Daniel reached the second round of the tournament after stopping the Chinese Taipei pair, Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Wang Chi Lin.

Fikri/Daniel will also be tested by the first seed and world number one belonging to the host, Liang Wei Berkek/Wang Chang, in the second round later. The pair are silver medalists at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

At the 2024 China Open, Indonesia deployed a total of 10 representatives. This number consists of three men's singles, one women's singles, five men's doubles, and one mixed doubles.
