FIBA Officially Headquartered In Jakarta

JAKARTA The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) officially opened their new office in Indonesia. The office became FIBA's third office in Asia after China and Singapore.

The office, which is located on the 3rd Floor of Danareksa Tower, Central Jakarta, was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, afternoon WIB.

"I welcome the presence of the FIBA office in Indonesia as a form of real support from FIBA in accelerating the improvement of basketball achievements in Indonesia," said Joko Widodo in his remarks.

On that occasion, Joko Widodo also expressed his gratitude for FIBA's trust in appointing Indonesia to host the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup (FIBA World Cup).

Joko Widodo said that such trust made Indonesia more committed to supporting the great talents of youth in the field of sports, especially basketball.

"By conducting coaching and training as well as holding as many sporting events as possible and by building international standard venues," he said.

The presence of the FIBA office was also welcomed by the Central Board of the Indonesian Basketball Association (PP Perbasi). The arrival of FIBA is expected to help accelerate achievements and industry in Indonesian basketball.

"In addition, in accordance with the expectations of President Joko Widodo as well, hopefully more and more young Indonesians will be fond of basketball," said Acting Head of PP Perbasi, Ardima Rama Putra.

FIBA Secretary General, Andreas Zakglis, in his report said that the FIBA office in Indonesia was not only part of the World Cup legacy.

He explained that the presence of this office is a form of FIBA's strong belief in the potential of youth and support for basketball in Indonesia.

"Here we will have a number of projects, especially those involving more Indonesian youths, both men and women, to play basketball and live a healthy lifestyle, and to bring the Indonesian national team to a higher level," said Zakglis.
