Based on his LinkedIn profile, he owns a warehouse construction company called Camp Box Honolulu. He also graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 1998.

Records from the North Carolina Penitentiary Department show that Routh has a criminal history. In the 1990s, he was involved in a case of writing false checks and was charged with possessing a mass destruction weapon in 2002. In addition, he was also charged with minor offenses, hit-and-runs, and rejection of arrests.
